Starting Youngsters

Erika and Victor have over 30 years experience starting babies from the ground up, both for the racetrack and regular riding. We focus on creating a great foundation of education through groundwork and train each horse individually, according to his or her temperament and previous experiences. Patience is key!
Starting a horse under saddle takes about 60 days. Additional training afterwards is available, of course!
Your youngster will learn the following with confidence:
~To lead, tie, be groomed, pick up feet, be hosed off
~To lunge, free and on a line
~Backed and ridden walk, trot, canter, halt, basic steering

~Ridden in company (side by side, following/leading, head on passing)
~Hacked out of the arena

$55 per day. Subject to change.

Availability limited. January to May our focus is geared toward TBs destined for the racetrack.

OTTB Restart Package
Buy a fresh off-track thoroughbred through Fitness Eventing and get a deal on your first 60 days of training! Erika has worked at the track as a licensed trainer and exercise rider, and her husband Victor is a prominent jockey. We have many connections at Charles Town Racetrack and Erika is very skilled at finding suitable horse/owner matches! We understand the daily life and routine of a racehorse, and take steps to make the horses' transition back to farm life as seamless and low-stress as possible. We know how racehorses are ridden and trained, so we can retrain the horses using methods that they better understand. All of this experience means a correct, thorough, and low-stress restart process, laying a solid foundation of training for whatever discipline the horse branches off into.
We are happy to work closely with owners, teaching you the ins and outs of how to care for and ride your new partner, laying the foundation for a long and successful relationship!
$1500 per month full training. Subject to change. Only applies to horses purchased BEFORE any post-track training.

Some horses are available on our Horses For Sale page but most are sourced on an individual basis... Text Erika to set up a phone meeting to discuss your options!
